Divine Liturgy Known as "Mass" to western Christians, the Eucharistic Sacrifice is offered at St. Basil's whenever our pastor or a visiting priest is in Charlotte. Any practicing Catholic (Byzantine, Roman, Maronite, etc.) may recieve Holy Communion at St. Basil's provided he/she has properly prepared through confession of sins in the Sacrament/Mystery of Repentence and by keeping the communion fast.
Typica Service This ancient Service, which originated in the monasteries of the East, is served by a Deacon at our mission when there is no priest available to celebrate Divine Liturgy. Holy Communion is distributed to the faithful as a fitting climax to this holy liturgy. Attending the Typica Service fullfills the Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation requirement for Ukrainian/Byzantine Catholics. Any practicing Catholic (Byzantine, Roman, Maronite, etc.) may recieve Holy Communion at St. Basil's if he/she has properly prepared through confession of sins in the Mystery/Sacrament of Repentance and by keeping the communion fast.

Vespers and the Little Hours As the glorious evening prayer of the Church, Vespers ushers in the start of a new liturgical day with rising incense and chant. This beautiful liturgy, filled with psalms and ancient hymns, is from the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) and is usually celebrated at St. Basil's on major feast days.
The Little Hours are the day time prayers from the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) and in the tradition of the Byzantine Rite often precede the celebration of the Divine Liturgy and Typica Service. The sixth hour and/or ninth hour is prayed at St. Basil's each Sunday afternoon.
