HOW TO PARTICIPATE
If this is your first encounter with the Divine Liturgy, we recommend that you simply relax and allow yourself to take in the experience. The Divine Liturgy is a mystical celebration that engages all five senses. In time, you will become familiar with the flow of the liturgy, and it will transform your spiritual life.
When ready, the best way to participate is by joining the congregation in singing the Divine Liturgy. You will find the words and music in the blue book entitled THE DIVINE LITURGY: AN ANTHOLOGY FOR WORSHIP. You will notice colored tabs on the book’s fore edge (opposite the spine). The helpful table provided above will introduce you to how the book should be used.
RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION
During the Divine Liturgy, the bread and wine offered on the altar are mystically transformed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Catholics are invited to receive Holy Communion. Orthodox Christians are also welcome to receive Holy Communion, and are encouraged to respect the directives of their own Church. Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the oneness of faith, life and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted to Holy Communion.
When receiving Holy Communion, approach the priest with your mouth open wide and your head tilted back. Keep your tongue inside your mouth. Communion will be dropped into your mouth with a spoon.
BECOMING A MEMBER
We invite you to join our church family.
Our church is a diverse group of people from many different ethnic and social backgrounds. We have faithful in our parish family who were raised in a variety of religious traditions, and now call our church home.
To become a member, speak with the clergy following the Divine Liturgy, and tell them that you would like to join the church.
We would love to welcome you into the family.
